The swap meet is a chance to buy, sell, swap, barter, bargain or trade your unwanted leather goods so start making a pile of unworn, ill-fitting, unwanted (dusty?!) stuff to take to the Swap Meet @ the Hampshire on Australia Day. A small registration fee will apply but you set your own prices :)

Genitorturers are here later this week! Who are they you ask? Gen, the lead of Genitorturers, is the performer who was the basis of the cult kink film, Preaching To The Perverted. You will probably never see a show like this again. Here is what a fan in the US had to say about their gig: Genitorturers took the stage, and they just ruled. They offered nudity, bdsm, torture, play-piercing, nazi-style dominas, penetration, giant thrusting mechanical phalluses, latex nuns and catholic schoolgirls, fetish gear, corsetry, audience participation, the whole damned thing. It's one of those shows that really has to be experienced to comprehend. There was a play-piercing scene that got pretty intense, and blood was shed. This is the final notice of the Annual General Meeting of the Sydney Leather Pride Association. The AGM will be held at 6pm, Sunday 10th September, at the Manacle Club Bar, 1 Paterson Lane, Taylor Square, Darlinghurst (under the Taylor Square Hotel).
Please note, the coming week will also see two very special events: BAD, by the Harbour City Bears, and Vice and Consent, by QueerScreen.
BAD, being held at SPACE on Liverpool St this Friday, will be a sexy and fun night, with the debaucherous sounds of Tim Blanchard and Rob Davis. With SLPA Member's getting discounted tickets at only $25, this is one event you can't miss! The Bears are coming out of HiBEARnation. Spring will be upon us as Harbour City Bears stages one of the first fundraising efforts towards Bear Essentials XI to be held in Feb/Mar 2007. The focus will be on creating a space where hundreds of Bears coming out of hibernation, Rugby Players finishing their season and butch men hungry and in the mood to play get together. That’s what is BAD. While Sydney is no stranger to men’s events, BAD differs in its significance and the resources behind it, the largest event of its kind taken on by Harbour City Bears. SLPA eNews - 2006 Pride Awards - Mon 26/06/2006
Dear Members and Kindred Organisations,
Fantastic results from the 2006 Pride Awards! Four Awards to our Community! Starting with our home away from home, Manacle, Stuart and Andrew pulled in the Community Supporter (Metro & East) Award. Next up came the Award for Most Innovative Community Event, won by the Combined Community Bike Run, followed by the stunning Eva Karagiannis with Sexiest Female and JBear with Sexiest Male. Also among the winners were our dear friends, the Luncheon Club, whose selfless efforts continue to enrich the lives of so many.
This proves once and for all that we put the Unity into Community.
The night was full of revelry and excitement, including the priceless response to the question of the attendees at large, "How do you tell if a lesbian is an alpha female?" which was answered by Eva K, who called out "They taste different!"
Our sincerest thanks go to all of those who voted, especially to those from Kindred Organisations, for showing your continued support and dedication. Without all of you, this resounding success could not have been made possible.

category of Sexiest Male. In the category for the Most Innovative Community Event, it's the Combined Bike Run, which happened for the first time a month ago,
bringing together the Dolphins, the Dykes On Bikes, the Roadrunners, the Vixens, SLPA and the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence. The event was a SCREAMING success, with each of the groups involved already having it in their calendars for next year.
The other two nominations? We are proud to say that they BOTH go to past Leather Persons of the Year, Stuart & Andrew, for their fantastic work at Manacle in the categories for Outstanding Community Member(s) and Community Supporter(s). The sheer amount of time and energy these two put into our community is simply staggering.

Many thanks to all of you who made the Leather Pride Festival for 2006 such a success. As you've no doubt guessed, now that the Festival is over, the eNews will be going back to fortnightly (or monthly in slower periods).
General Meeting - Sunday 18th June, 5 pm
There will be a General Meeting of the Association at 1/10 James St, Waterloo, on Sunday, 18th June. An agenda will be sent out in the next week. Light refreshment will be available, and there will be a display of photos from many of the events of the Leather Pride Festival 2006, after which the images will be added to the Association's website.
Membership - New Applications and Renewals
The 2005/6 membership period is drawing to a close, and we will be accepting new membership applications and renewals from this point onwards for processing from 1st July. Combined Bike Run
On May 13th at 9am, the first combined bike run of Dykes On Bikes, the Dolphins Motorcycle Club, Bike Boyz, Road Runners, the Vixens, Hooters On Scooters and, of course, SLPA will take place. There will be a blessing of the bikes by the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, as well as a BBQ Breakfast, at Sydney Park at 9am, in the parking area between the smoke stacks and the service station on the highway.

Film Night
Fetish movie night - a night of film and discussion with your leather friends. Anyone on a leash is allowed, human dogs and seeing-eye dogs are very welcome but because it's a licensed venue no kids or pets.

It’s coming up to Sydney Leather Pride Week again, time to submit your works of sublime for this years Sydney Leather Pride Art Exhibition. Calling all talented kinksters, make your mark and show us your thing. Sydneys kink community is so wonderfully diverse, inspired and inspiring. Full of varied view points and outlooks. That’s what we would like to see this year in Artspace 2006. Be you an accomplished artist, or a fledgling talent. An experienced player, or a novice. We want to see your stuff.
This exhibition is not limited to any gender, orientation, type of kink, or level of experience. Whatever you’re into we want to see it. The gallery has moved from recent years to the wonderfully convenient Aurora Gallery at GLCS 43 Bedford Street Newtown. The opening will be held on Monday the 15th May at 7pm, and the exhibition will run through until the 5pm Saturday the 20th of May, doors open between 5-8pm. This year we will be asking for a $10 administration fee per artist to cover costs. We’ll need to know what kind of piece your submitting, dimensions, how it will be displayed etc and also price and a short bio. Photos would really be appreciated, and can be emailed, or sent via the mobile number. If not possible, a fairly precise description would do. All submissions must be to the curator by the beginning of May, bio and specs by the 8th and artwork delivered to the venue on Saturday the 13th of May between 2-5pm, and be clearly labelled with title, price and artist's name.

Pool Competition
After bringing the community together for the Bike Run, it's time to pit them against each other, gladiator style, for the audience's entertainment. This year we will be holding the inaugural Leather Pride Week Pool Comp at Manacle. So if you're good at playing with sticks and balls, come along from 8pm, 15-19 May.

The spoken word evening is performance, prose, poetry about bdsm experiences, life, culture, feelings - things from your diary or yesterday or things you desire. Serious, thoughtful, risque and comedic performance is fine - the main idea is a forum to speak in. The theme is our /leather /bdsm /fetish /top /bottom /switch etc community. Read your own work, or words from other people that inspire, delight or arouse you.
If you are speaking from within or a voyeurs point of view that will be good to hear. It is a fairly casual night with wine and supper and some time to enjoy the art work as well. As usual, this will be held at artSpace on the Wednesday before Inquisition (17th May).

Dear Members,
There will be further eNews sent out later this week, but a matter has been brought to our notice that cannot wait. This is a special eNews to let members know about the recent passing of a treasured member of our community, Peter McCallum. Many of you would know Peter and his partner, Steve, from Radical Leather. In his time in our community he was a Sister of Perpetual Indulgence, one of the founders of Sydney Leather Men, and a former Secretary of this association. Peter passed away on Friday night.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday 10 May at the rotunda at Moore Park at 2pm. The rotunda is just near the intersection of Moore Park Rd and Anzac Parade. Peter’s funeral is private for Steve and Peter’s family. The memorial is the opportunity for those that knew him to send him off together. For Steve, Peters family and friends their will be drinks at Manacle from 3pm. Our deepest sympathies go out to Steve, as well as Peter's family.

That's Advertising
Well, after my last depressing news snippet, I thought I'd give you something a little more upbeat this time. For decades the more conservative elements in the media have warned that advertising is rapidly approaching the level of pornography, what with billboards progressively showing more and more to sell their products. It seems, however, that maybe there was something to the paranoia. French website S*xpacking.com is the adult advertising website for the Shaï clothing label, and they've taken the final plunge into porn. The thing is, I would have found it boring or even shallow if the website was simply an online picture catalogue showing the models in various throes of passion.
S*xpacking.com have innovated, though. Not only do they show their models actually having sex, they offer interactivity. You choose whether to watch two men, two women or a mixed couple, and during the movie, all you have to do to get more information on a preferred article of clothing is roll your mouse over the screen to pause the movie and select your article de couture. Admittedly, however, there are drawbacks. As it is a French website, the drawbacks to trans-continental web-browsing apply, making it difficult to watch from your browser.
Fortunately, they provide download links, which make it easier. Also, the mixed pair are, in my humble opinion, very typical of vanilla heterosexual porn. And there is currently only one scene of each type of coupling to choose from, and no group scenes. Still, I think that those drawbacks are ones that can be resolved in time, and are representative of the experimental nature of the medium. In fact, I was honestly surprised to see a boy-boy scene included in this type of marketing experiment. My verdict is this, have a look. It's
worth it just for the amusement value. Just don't do it at work.
The Gaydar Gang
In the continuing vein of my Not Safe For Work links for your perusal, http://gaydar.co.uk/scripts/gaydargang.asp holds a fairly amusing little webcomic written by the boys at britdoodz.com that seems to be along the lines of Friends meets Queer As Folk. Episode 2 left me in stitches. There are only 4 episodes up so far, and I can't wait to see more.
Proposal for Constitutional Change - Postal Ballot
On a more serious note, a motion to change the SLPA Constitution has been received by the President, Gary Kennedy. In accordance with the Constitution, it requested that this be put to the Association by postal ballot.
The motion is as follows:
Motion 1: To change the term of office for positions other than the President from two years to not setting a term of office. Current wording: “No member of the Committee shall hold the same position for a period in excess of two consecutive terms.” Proposed wording: “The President shall not hold that position for a period in excess of two consecutive terms.” [Rule 9g]
Please find attached a Microsoft Word document which contains the voting form, to be received by fax, post or email not later than close of business on Friday 12th May 2006, or fourteen (14) days from now. If you find that you cannot open the attached file, please contact me immediately by return email so that I can get a hard copy to you.

* Uniformity, this Saturday, 22nd April, is an opportunity for collectors and admirers of Uniforms to get together, plus SLPA Committee folk will be manning the door. This is a great opportunity to come along, enjoy a drink with a dirty kinky crowd, show off your uniforms, or pick up an Inquisition ticket.
2. CaBEARet
* J Bear is back. If you caught him during MG, you already know how much fun he is to spend the night with.... if you missed him then, come along and find out! You can catch him on Sunday 23 April, Sunday 7 May, Wednesday 17 May & then on the first Sunday of each month
3. Dress Dinner
* On ANZAC Eve, this Monday, 24th April, come along to @ Newtown (the old Newtown RSL on Enmore Rd) for a Uniform/Dress Dinner. Take the opportunity to show everyone else that leather folk aren't just the best at doing it, we look the best while we're doing it, too. Show up at 7pm for 7:30pm dinner.
4. Boot Camp
* After our Dress Dinner, you don't even have to leave the building to keep your night going, because 8 till late, also at @ Newtown, our good friends from Harbour City Bears will be holding "Boot Camp" with the magnificent DJ talents of BEAR1 and Inquisition DJ Shanobear!

Sydney's leather community will celebrate Leather Pride Week (LPW) from May 14 to 20.
*BREAKDOWN OF EVENTS*
*Love Muscle - Physique competition which always sells out. It's an Official Team Sydney event and trial for the Gay Games. 6 May, 7.30pm, Petersham RSL, 7A Regent St, Petersham.
*Leathergrrls meet and greet* - For new grrls to get to know others in the scene. 10 May, 7pm, Hampshire Hotel, cnr of Church St and Parramatta Rd, Camperdown.
*Leather Boys meet and greet* - For boys to get to know each other. 11 May, 7pm, Manacle, 1 Patterson Lane, Taylor Square, Darlinghurst.
*Combined Bike Run* - The first joint run between the Dolphins, Bike Boyz, Dikes on Bikes and Vixens. 13 May.
*Film night* - A couple of great BDSM movies. 13 May, 7pm, GLCS, 43 Bedford St, Newtown.
*MCC Church service* - A blessing for Leather Pride Week and a display of the SLPA Quilt. 14 May, 7.30pm, 96 Crystal Street, Petersham.
*Fair Day* - Will be held indoors this year, with many of the usual bizarre competitions, upstairs at the Midnight Shift. A chance to party during the day with our finest DJs, Fair Day will be going hard and heavy regardless of rain. Anyone on a leash is allowed, human dogs and seeing-eye dogs are very welcome but because it's a licensed venue no kids or pets. 14 May, 11am-5pm, Midnight Shift, 85 Oxford St, Darlinghurst.
*Art Space* - The best of Sydney's fetish and kink artists. Past works have included paintings, photos, tapestry, videos, sculpture, performance art, fashion garments, boots, and bondage. 15 May-20 May, 5-8pm, GLCS, 43 Bedford St, Newtown. Opening night and prize giving 15 May, 7pm, GLCS.
*Bob Buckley spoken word* - A chance to read your BDSM/kink stories for five minutes to a receptive audience. 17 May, 7pm, GLCS, 43 Bedford St, Newtown.
*Pool competition* - SLPA, the Bears, Dykes on Bikes and a Manacle team will play for the SLPA Leather Pride Week trophy. The name of the winner and club they represent will be engraved on a big trophy and kept permanently on display in a cabinet at Manacle. 15-20 May, Manacle.
*Education workshops* - Learn new BDSM skills with renowned community experts. Held at various venues throughout May.
*Inquisition14 dance party* - 20 May, 10pm-8am, Fox Studios. Tickets $95/$85 members.
*Inquisition Official Recovery* - 21 May, Midnight Shift.
*Inquisition 14 Back to Basics - Red, Hot & Dirty*
The highlight of this year's Leather Pride Week will be Inquisition 14 "Red, Hot & Dirty". This will be more of a hard-core community party, going back to basics and stripping away some of the excesses. Tickets are limited to 2000 only and the dress code will be strictly leather. Be warned - people who leave buying their tickets to the last minute will not get in. The Dome will be a minimal dark space, just like the old days, with the main chill-out area behind it. Stage 11 will be pulsing and throbbing with mirrors and lighting, but will also be much darker than previous years

Inquisition ticket sales are now open to SLPA members and the general public. Members can buy one ticket at the membership price of $85 and 3 more tickets at the non-member price of $95. Concession tickets are limited to DSP cardholders only and cost $85. A copy of the DSP card will need to be enclosed with your ticket order.
*How to buy your ticket*
Send in the order form to SLPA by fax or mail. Go to SAX Fetish, Darlinghurst or Froots store, Newtown with credit or cash/ Eft. Melbournians can purchase tickets from Lucrezia & De Sade Brunswick Street, Melbourne.
Those paying by cheque or credit card can have their tickets sent by registered post for an additional $5 or collect them from the Leather Pride Stall at Fair Day, Leather nights at Manacle or other SLPA events..

What is Leather Person of the Year?
Each year SLPA recognises the exceptional contribution of a member of the leather community to the leather or wider gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender communities. This is a great opportunity to say “thank you” to someone who has worked to improve the lives of others. So if you are a current financial member of SLPA, take a few moments to nominate someone who you think has made an outstanding effort to better your community.
Leather Person of the Year is announced at Leather Pride Fair Day and will be presented with a commemorative gift.
Who can be nominated?
Anyone who is a resident of New South Wales or the Australian Capital Territory. They don’t have to be a current member of SLPA. The nominee must be a suitable person to represent SLPA in the community and uphold the ideals of the Association. Current members of the Committee are excluded from accepting nominations.

An Extraordinary General Meeting has been called for Sunday 15th January, 2006, to be held at the Association's Offices at 6pm. This meeting has been called so as to report to the membership about the financial situation that has resulted from the Fantasy NYE party.
What follows is the text of the Press Release that was released earlier this week:
Despite holding a fantastic party and seeing many happy faces all night long, Fantasy NYE did not sell the required number of tickets to make a profit on this party.
We would like to thank all the volunteers and the incredibly supportive partygoers. We may not have sold out the party, but hearing so many delighted people say “it was the best party in years” helped the whole team to get through a difficult night.
Over the next week, we will be working with our accountants to quickly determine our financial position. The number one priority is looking after our loyal suppliers and ensuring that our members are treated with honesty and respect throughout the process.
There is a small comfort in knowing that we weren’t the only NYE promoters in this situation - all over Sydney this week, worried party people are hunched over spreadsheets and caffeine. In seven to ten days, the board of Sydney Leather Pride will have a clearer picture to present.

As a result of these events, the Treasurer, Neil Stollznow, has resigned, and as such we must also fill that vacancy. Nominations for the position of Treasurer will be open until the start of the EGM. In addition, the President, Gary Kennedy, has stated that he is willing to tender his resignation at the discretion of the members.
As a result of the above, the agenda for the meeting will be as follows:
1. Attendance, Registration of Proxies and Declaration of Quorum
2. Reportback on Fantasy NYE
3. Election of Treasurer
4. Discussion of Offer of Resignation from the President
Please note that any additional matters that members may wish to add to the agenda may be held over until the previously scheduled General Meeting on January 22nd. The reason for calling the EGM is that the issues raised were deemed too important to delay.
